Panayiotis Doukanaris

Panayiotis Doukanaris was born (b. 1991) in Nicosia, Cyprus and he is currently living and working in Limassol, Cyprus. He completed his Bachelor Degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2015. He received a full scholarship from the Mike Holland Trust, and enrolled for an MA in Fine Arts at the Birmingham City University, where he graduated with first class honours in 2016. While in Birmingham and under the mentorship of philosopher-poet Professor Johnny Golding, Doukanaris developed his interest towards the materiality of the canvas.

He participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe and Internationally: Unbound Nature: Between Remedy and Poison, Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art, NPAK, Yerevan, Armenia. [Within the framework of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026(upcoming)]. DECENNIAL: A Creative Legacy | 10 year anniversary, Art Seen Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus (2025); Repetitive Acts: The power of weaving and textile in Contemporary Art -NIMAC, Nicosia, Cyprus (2024), Islandic Parallels: Transformed Landscapes from one Island to Another — Contemporary Art Platform, Kuwait (2024), Accelerating Young Talent — ADP Retrospective, EIB Headquarters, Luxembourg (2023), Contextile 2022 — Contemporary Textile Art Biennial, Guimaraes, Portugal (2022); Belonging, The Hunt Museum, curated by EIB Institution, Limerick, Ireland (2022); UKYA, Bjcem Biennale des Jeunes Createurs de l’Europe et de la Mediterranee, Nottingham, UK (2019); Painting Notes, Art Seen Contemporary Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus (2018). In 2019 he had his first solo exhibition Painting Beyond the Image, Art Seen — Contemporary Art Projects & Editions (Nicosia, Cyprus).

Awards: Τhe Mike Holland Trust Award (2015); European Investment Bank, Artist Development Program residency, Luxembourg (2020). Some of his works belong to private and public collections: EIB Institute Art Collection; Cyprus National Collection of Contemporary Art; Luciano Benetton Collection, Imago Mundi — Wonder Island.
